I'm going to be 16 in 2 weeks, and in Massachusetts, that's when you're able to get your permit. A week after i get my permit i'm moving to Maine, where you're able to get your license at 16. I'm only going to be there for 8 months. I am just confused on whether i have to wait 6 months to get my license in Maine as if i was living in Massachusetts? or can i get my license right away. And would i have to retake drivers ed because its in a different state and there are different rules? any clarification would be appreciated.

I agree with oklatom.

You're only staying in Maine temporarily. You'll have get your permit in Massachusetts, wait 6 months with your Massachusetts permit, and get your license in Massachusetts. You'll have to wait until you go back to Massachusetts to get your license.

When you get your permit, you would not have to retake anything (if your permit doesn't expire).

Overall, you have two options:

Option 1: Get your permit when you turn 16. If you do this, you would have to wait 8 months, until you go back to Massachusetts to get your license. If you choose to get a permit before you go to Maine, you have to check the restrictions on your permit.

You have to see if Massachusetts allows you to drive out-of-state on a learner's permit. If you can drive with your permit out-of-state, you can practice your driving in Maine (obviously with a licensed driver at least 21).

You also have to see if Maine allows out-of-state permit holders to drive there. Do some research and find out.

Getting your permit now would be useless if you can't practice your driving until you get back to Massachusetts.

Option 2: Wait until you come back to Massachusetts to get your permit.

No state will issue you a permit nor a license unless you are a permanent resident of the state. Visiting Maine for 8 months will not make you a resident. Where you live the majority of the time and attend school is where you are a resident.

You MUST get your permit in your state of permanent residency, Massachusetts. However, you can legally practice driving in Maine as long as you are 16 AND obey any restrictions on your Massachusetts permit.

Please note that you can NOT drive in neighboring New Hampshire, & Vermont under any circumstances. They do NOT honor ANY out-of-state permits.

in case you have no longer moved to a various state, you could no longer get a motive force licence from yet another state. it truly is prohibited in maximum jurisdictions to have 2 modern licences, so in spite of in case you have moved, you would be handing your modern licence in to get a clean one. Your disposition in courtroom isn't based upon having a NJ licence on your possession. A suspension order would be picked up in each and every province in Canada, and each state interior the U. S., so which you new licence may well be pulled besides. You seem to have toasted your self. 12 factors? without notice? It does not sound such as you're able to desire to have a licence besides.
