Hi all, I'm buying a car tomorrow which is a private sale, up until now I've always got my cars from the same garage, the lad mots it for me ready for collecting and usually bungs 6 months tax in too. The garage owner is almost family so we always let him sort the paper work side out to make it road legal, tomorrow however I'm away to pick my new car up which isnt taxed, MOTD or insured. Obviously I will sort insurance out on it but at the moment I'm using my mums car, both inured on one policy with a "drive any car cover" will this cover me for driving the car to mot tomorrow? Can't yax the car without an mot and can't get an mot without getting the car to garage which is located 90 mins away. Am I ok to drive this car as it's technically on its way to its mot which still allows you 5 days to sort an mot out without landing in hot water and will my own insurance cover the car until I arrange insurance tomorrow night? I can't cancel my current policy as the ongoing claim will be effected as well as loosing the option to drive my mums car. I'm just worried im going to break the law or something and land in extremely hot water somewhere. Any advice would be great on this, thanks
Xx

The MOT has to be pre booked at the closest MOT station to where it is.

It has to be insured and can only be driven directly to and from the MOT. If it passes then you can tax it and all is well.

Buying a car without MOT is a big risk.

I would trailer it home the sort it out.

Even then loading has to be off the highway.

Get caught and you will get the car impounded and without MOT be unable to recover it.

ANPR is everywhere.

The drive any car cover only applies to the Policy holder and the car being driven HAS to be insured it its own right.

Getting done will cost you a fortune on insurance for many years.

The other option is get your mechanic to collect it.

Call the MOT people and ask. That's what a logical and intelligent person would dso.

You need to be asking the authorities all of these questions.
