I was in a fairly serious car accident on Friday and it has already been determined to be the other parties fault, his insurance company is paying my medical bills, the bill for a new car seat, as well as sending settlement checks to my 18 month old and my fiance who were not injured in the crash. I know my car is totaled and I don't think they will offer me much for it (it's an 2002 Sunfire, 170k miles), it did have new breaks as well as other recent repairs on it, so I can I send them receipts for that? I'm not really sure what amount is appropriate for a car that old with that many miles.

No, things like brake work, tune ups, and the like are considered to be normal maintenance and don't add to the worth of the vehicle.

As to worth, around $3,100

I do not suppose so. But this is side of the reply and the hyperlink beneath must reply your query. If you used a legal professional ask him/her. I received the data beneath from the hyperlink in "recognize your supply"? Thus, for settlements (or awards) paid after August 20, 1996, simplest the ones repayments resulting from a bodily damage or ailment are tax loose. Lost wages, compensatory and punitive damages bobbing up from claims of employment discrimination are taxable, besides for exact scientific fees because of emotional misery. Because the repayments are taxable to the plaintiff, the company ought to document the cost, both on Form 1099 or W-two.

You won't get much for it, and no they won't pay additional for recent repairs. You can check KBB.com for an estimate of what your car was worth.

*******

I doubt it's worth $3,100. I know 3 Sunfires in that range and they're all rusted to junk. Keep in mind if yours is rusted, that will severely cut the value.

You can get much if you have medical expenses because it will be covered by the compensation. The only thing is you should have a good car accident injury lawyer. Because he will be the one to assess and collect money for you.
