I used to be an AAA member with insurance and all but after I was 55, AARP was cheaper, Now i want to get roadside insurance, I know AAA was really good, but I think one has to be a member with their insurance, what other options for roadside assistance are there ? i don't travel a lot, but don't have anyone to call to come help. Thanks, Grandma Wendy

You don't need to have your auto policy with AAA to get their roadside package. Those are actually two different companies.

As far as the best, AAA is who you want. Everyone else who offers roadside assistance coverage always says their product is as good as AAA. Nobody ever says "We're just as good as Crazy Bob's Roadside Assistance", they always use AAA as the comparison.

You do not have to have AAA insurance to get their roadside assistance. My parents have had Allstate for several years and have been AAA members as well. My current insurance company offers roadside assistance for a small fee. It more than pays for itself with one use. AARP might offer it as well. I would call the insurance agent and ask. Good luck!

Roadside assistance and breakdown coverage are services that assist motorists, or bicyclists, whose vehicles have suffered a mechanical failure that leaves the operator stranded. In some areas, especially in Europe, there is a government-sponsored or -sanctioned automobile membership association, and the service may be in the form of an insurance policy with premiums, instead of a member subscription fee. Services may also be available as part of the service of a vehicle insurance company, or other companies whose primary business is to offer such assistance. There are many such private roadside assistance companies in the United States. Most can offer these services for a fair annual fee, without requiring the customer to be a member of a large motor club group.
