If I get caught speeding, does it go to the address my licence is at or the where the car is registered?

I have recently moved, and I have changed the address of my licence but completely forgot about my car.. IF I did get caught by a speed camera, would the ticket go to where my licence is at or the car is registered?

Also, if it would go to where the car is registered.. is there anything i can do to check if they've sent a ticket out?

Goes to the address on the car's V5, which you should have changed as soon as you moved.

Nothing you can do except change the address on the V5 immediately and hope your mail gets forwarded on from your old address.

If a policeman stops you they'll hand out a penalty ticket on the spot.

If a camera catches you speeding then the notice will be sent to the address where the car is registered.

The system can only see the car's number plate, it cannot see your licence so it would not know what address is written on that.

Therefore the people at your old address will receive a speeding ticket in the post. They'll probably return this to DVLA and then cross-checking will happen. If the people throw the notice away the DVLA will wonder why you haven't paid your fine. They'll correlate the car registration with your licence and the penalty notice will be sent to you.

You will then probably have to pay a penalty for not notifying DVLA of the new address where the car is kept.

You must also notify your insurance company about the change of address. Until this is done (and any adjustment of premium made) you are driving against the terms of your policy; which means that you are not insured.

Dumbass!

Sorry, couldn't resist. OK, so you got nabbed by a speed camera. It happens. The ticket (which is actually just an invoice) won't go on your record so it's not really a big deal. The camera just picks up the number plate, so the ticket goes to the address registered to the plates / registration on the vehicle. Yes you can check, and you'd want to do that when (and do it soon) you advise them of your new address.

The camera didn't record your drivers licence, just the plates. Since they can't possibly verify that you were the person driving (a very big requirement in court), the ticket won't show up on your driving record. All they can prove is that your vehicle was speeding, but it could have been anybody driving at the time. Even if the camera captured an image of your face, that's not enough in court. Camera tickets are just like parking tickets - you can get a million of them and your official driving record will be untouched.

So you don't have your licence or registration documents up to date you can be looking at a £1000 fine for each when traced. Yes the letter will go to the address on the registration document and if the fine is not sorted out within a month or two they will add your car to a PNC check so if the police are out and about and your car is flagged up for non payment of fines they will throw the book at you with the maximum penalty for each and it wouldn't surprise me if they take the car and a ban. To avoid any nasty surprises get them both up to date to avoid a big fine.

It will go to where your car is registered. And you would then be in even more trouble for not having changed your address on the registration documents. Get it done straight away!

goes to where the vehicle is registered

contact the local police to where you were done, explain the mix up with the address, ask for details of court where fines are sent from, write and give them name, reg number, approx time and date of offence, and forward a duplicate ticket to you

Think about it, you pass a speed camera, flashes and reads your number plate of the car.

Send in your V5C to get it changed.

Change the registration address, but never contact the police voluntarily , you have the 6th amendment right to not incriminate yourself, so even if there is a picture of the car they can not prove you were driving.

The fine goes to the registered keeper of the car, they do not know who is driving.

Don't forget, there's also a £1,000 fine, for not changing your address details on the V5...
