Last night, someone hit my drivers side mirror and completely smashed it. The main holder is still in place, but the actual mirror itself popped out and is in pieces. How do I turn this in if I have no proof on the person that did it? Will I have to pay for it? I don't want to turn it in if it's going to hurt me in the long run. Any help will be great. Thank you!

You file a claim by calling your State Farm agent and telling them what happened. But before you do that, you need to know two things. The first thing is ignore the answer from Frank completely.

The second thing is that the damage you have is the result of a hit & run, and hit & run damage is only covered by Collision coverage. If you don't have Collision coverage, your policy won't cover this damage. If you do have Collision coverage, your policy still probably won't cover this damage. Collision coverage almost always comes with a deductible, and the deductible is the part of a loss that your policy does not cover. Collision deductibles are usually anywhere from $500 to $1000, and most side mirrors (parts and labour combined) are worth way less than that.

Go to the nearest repair shop that you trust, and ask them for an estimate. If their estimate is less than your deductible, you've got no reason to file a claim with your insurer. If it's more, definitely file a claim by calling them up and telling them you need to file a claim.

NOTE: Since State Farm only operates in the US and Canada, you definitely won't risk having your rates increased by reporting this to them. Only at-fault claims can affect your rates, and being the victim of a hit & run is totally not an at-fault claim.

Get a repair estimate from a local body repair shop and if it is close to your collision deductible, pay for the damage your self. If it is way over the deductible amount, call your State Farm Agent and file a claim. Since you were not at fault, it should not cause your rates to increase. Good Luck

If you have more than STATE MINIMUM coverage, you don't need to know WHO did it.

If YOU want to pay for it, then do not turn it in to your insuracn company.

If you want an insurance claim --CALL THE AGENT listed on your policy or Insurance Card.

In ALL cases, there is also an 800 number to call.

BUT DO IT NOW -- you only have 3 or 4 days to call. After that the insruacne company might not handel ti AT ALL.

LOL....the first thing you DON'T do is call your insurance provider. You want your insurance to SKYROCKET? A mirror won't even clear your DEDUCTIBLE!

You go on to e-Bay and you look for a NEW or USED mirror...complete...and ORDER IT. It take literally five minutes to replace 90% of the mirrors out there. Dealers will charge you an ARM and a LEG to do it. Do it yourself.

In the mean time...TAPE UP a TEMP mirror while you wait. Duct tape should work fine while you wait for the item to arrive.

don't even bother to call unless you're sure the repair cost will exceed your deductible, maybe not even then.
