In got my license in October and im 18. I recently got in an accident and my car got totaled. I was still paying for thr car. I had about 11k left to pay off. The insurance ended up paying for all of it but if charging my dad an extra $350 a month for some reason.he has to pay this until May. Unless I surrender my drivers license. Just wondering. What steps do.I have to.go through to get it back? Do I have to take Drives Ed again? And also take the driving exam?

If the driver license you surrender is expired for more than 30 days you will be required to retest as well as passing the vision test.

If you surrender your licence, you're officially quitting as a driver. And in Maryland (where the regulations are pretty tight), anything over 30 days means you have to start over as a new driver.

The 'some reason' your dad is being charged extra is the accident you had, and it cranked up the premiums. The only way they'll stop charging to have you on the policy is if you surrender your licence, because if you simply say "I'm not driving anymore" they won't believe you. Don't take it personally, they're like that with everyone. Insurance companies have all been lied to a million times, so now they don't take anybody's word for anything.

Put this question to DMV of Maryland and your insurance company.

You will have to ask your DMV what the rules and the procedures would be.
