A rental car company allowed an individual to rent a vehicle in my name without verifying the individuals face with the drivers license photo. This person has a master card that they illegally obtained in my name as well (the car was rented with this credit card). The person was also allowed to leave the premises with a rental car. The person never returned the car. A certified letter was sent to me informing me to return a vehicle that I never owned, borrowed, or seen. I have been trying to get this issue resolved, but the rental agency is not being very helpful in resolving this issue. I have already contacted local authorities, emailed the car rental company representative, spoken on the phone with a few representatives from the agency, gone in to speak with a car rental representatives, and contacted the credit bureaus.

Sounds as if you have most bases covered. If you haven't already you need to dispute the charge for the rental with your credit card company

by contacting local authorities, i assume you mean you filed a police report for ID theft?

you also should have an alert on your credit report showing that this person has stolen your ID.

if she got a credit card in your name, the billing would be mailed to a different address than yours? or if the billing is mailed to you for payment and you saw charges you did not make, you would have a record of calling the credit card company and disputing the charges.

i suggest you provide copies of the police report and other authorities you have contacted showing you are not the person they are trying to locate.

go to freeannualreport.com to get copy of your credit report. black out all personal info except the last 4 digits.

ie; social security number

credit card numbers;

so say she used XYZ credit card with the last 4 digits of 1234, there should not be any card under your name for the same.

they have to prove that you were the one who rented the car.

it they don't back off, then i suggest you contact a lawyer for your legal rights.

good luck

If you don't know anything at all about this, you have most likely

had identiy theft commited against you!!! An attorney should be contacted immediately to start getting things started, to help straighten this out..This will take time, but all the car rental company knows is that a car was rented in your name, and they want their car back.
